Depending on your license, you can use social login (via Facebook or LinkedIn) to generate leads with your Foleon publications. In this article, we’ll talk about how to set up social login.

Setting up social login through Facebook

Here’s the full guide to creating an application in Facebook and connecting it to Foleon.

Step 1. Create a Facebook App

In order to grant readers access to your publication by logging in with Facebook, you'll need to create a Facebook App.

Go to Facebook for Developers, log in, and click Get started in the top right.

Step 2. Create a Facebook for Developers account

Provide the necessary information to Facebook.

Step 3. Add your first product

Click on Add Your First Product.

Step 4. Select Facebook Login

Select Facebook Login.

Step 5. Skip the Quickstart by going to the Basic Settings in the left-side menu

Step 6. Fill out the necessary information and copy the App ID and App Secret over to your Lead generation settings in Foleon

Paste them here:

Step 7. Connect your Facebook App to Foleon’s API

Go back to your app in Facebook, under Products, click on Facebook Login > Settings. At Valid OAuth Redirect URIs, add the following URL:

https://api.foleon.com/auth/facebook/callback

Click on Save changes.

Step 8. Turn your app on

Next, click the OFF switch at the top of the page.

Step 9. Make your app public

Afterwards, click on Confirm to make your app public.

Step 10. Test your social login in the publication’s preview

By default, Facebook social login provides you with the following information:

  • The Facebook user’s first name
  • The Facebook user’s last name
  • The Facebook user’s email address
  • The Facebook user’s age range
  • The Facebook user’s gender

You can download all lead generation submissions as a CSV from your dashboard. Simply click the 3 dots of a publication and click Get form results.

If the social login isn’t working, check to see if you’ve followed all steps correctly. If, after this, it’s still not working and you’re sure you’ve followed all instructions properly, please contact support@foleon.com.

Setting up social login through LinkedIn

Here’s the full guide to creating an application in LinkedIn and connecting it to Foleon.

Step 1. Create a LinkedIn application

In order to grant readers access to your publication by logging in with LinkedIn, you'll need to create a LinkedIn application. Note: a LinkedIn company page is required.

Go to LinkedIn for Developers, sign in to your LinkedIn account (or create an account if you don’t have one yet), and click on Create app.

Step 2. Fill out the required fields

Fill in the required fields. Take your time to fill these in because visitors might see them when they’re logging in. If you’re planning on generating leads in the European Union make sure you also add your Privacy Policy URL.

Step 3. Go to your app’s Auth settings

Once you’ve created the application, you’ll be presented with your app dashboard. Click on Auth.

Step 4. Copy the client ID and secret to the Lead generation settings in Foleon

At Auth > Application credentials, copy the Client ID and Client Secret:

Paste them here:

This connects the LinkedIn application to your Foleon publication.

Step 5. Connect your LinkedIn app to Foleon’s API

Go back to your app in LinkedIn, click on Auth again, scroll down to the OAuth 2.0 settings and add the following URL as a redirect URL:

https://api.foleon.com/auth/linkedin/callback

Click on Update to save your OAuth 2.0 settings.

Step 6. Add Sign In with LinkedIn to your products

Go to the Products section in the app in LinkedIn and click on Sign In with LinkedIn:

Then your request will be in progress for reviewing. After the review, your new product will be added to the Added Products section:

Step 7. Test your social login in the publication’s preview

By default, LinkedIn social login provides you with the following information:

  • The LinkedIn user’s first name
  • The LinkedIn user’s last name
  • The LinkedIn user’s email address

If you want to gather more information on users, you can submit your app for LinkedIn’s partner program. See: https://developer.linkedin.com/partner-programs.
