Prepare your Hotjar account
Site settings must be '"Track changes automatically, excluding fragments (default)".
Step by step guide here: Hotjar on Single Page Apps
This is the default setting in Hubspot. However, we recommend double-checking it hasn't been changed on your end.
If you are already using Hotjar for another website, be sure to add Foleon as a 'new organization'
Steps in Hotjar
You will be given a unique Hotjar Tracking Code for each site added. You will need a new site for each new publication.
- Add a new site using the full URL for your Foleon Publication
- Once added, select Tracking code
- Copy the tracking code
- Proceed to Foleon
Steps in Foleon
Once in Foleon, open the publication that you would like to add to Hotjar and navigate to Publication Settings.
Once in Publication settings, add the tracking code into the Remarketing code section.
(The reason that the remarketing field is applicable for Hotjar is that our publications are single-page applications and with Track changes automatically, excluding fragments (default) enabled Hotjar itself checks if the content or URL changes. Other tools don't often offer that. In those cases, you will need to use Google Tag Manager to fire the script again when the user switches to another page.)
Don't forget to Save! If the publication is already live, Republish!
Note: You can add as many integrations as you'd like
in the Remarketing or GTM fields.
